Campanula ("little bell") = bellflower. On this page are campanula muralis, an easy and dependable spreading rockery plant. It will spread under and behind rocks and paving, and seed about, but is not at all invasive. Just replant any little bit to get more.

I did once plant Campanula poscharskyana (Serbian bellflower). It grew well and then took over, and that was in a very dry place where nothing but ivy survives. I had to dismantle a length of granite stone rockery to get rid of it. Be warned!

The rockery needs to be totally clear of weeds, as once this campanula is established, nothing else can be dug out without disturbing the mat of shoots which travel down behind the stones and reappear through the gaps.
